One word that dominates these two Psalms is the word, “downcast.” In putting it in a modern vernacular. You might translate it, “Why are you so depressed? Why are you so filled with anxiety?” Depression is well known to us. Plenty of people are suffering from depression. The Bible recognizes the painful reality of the difficulties of man. As we ponder over these Psalms, may God enable us to experience the glorious presence of your comfort and encouragement that is here for those who are despairing. We pray that we will experience a renewal of this confidence that we sense from the Psalmist to put our hope in God. We will praise in you in our trouble.
